To me, folk art is defined by patterns and motifs, bright colours and shape. And even though none of these designs are drawn in a traditional mirror position, with two designs facing each other, every piece has an overall harmony to it.
True to style, each design has larger elements that are immediately visible and also offers more to see upon close inspection. The fine details in every piece further build upon the narrative the design conveys.
I preserved the joyful expression of colour, not in a single piece, but rather in the collection overall. Each shirt is a different bright colour and each design is either in a similar colour, to make it understated, or in a complementary colour to make the design pop.
These shirts are everything that I love about folk art and the illustrations are inspired by tradition yet characterised by a modern twist.
